Josh Himmelsbach
Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals
Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Josh has been singing and playing music
for as long as he can remember. He started out by picking out melodies on
his parents' piano while still a toddler. He took seven years of piano
lessons through the end of high school. At age 15 he took out his mother's
old guitar, had it tuned, and bought a book of chords. After mastering the
basic chord structures, he proceeded to teach himself guitar by listening
to tapes and copying what the guitarists were doing. Since late 2002 he has
also taught himself to play mandolin. Along the way he has dabbled in
drums, bass guitar, harmonica, ocarina, and tinwhistle. He wrote his first
song at age 11 and has not stopped since.
Josh has been a member of several bands in his lifetime, beginning with his
first band, ZOOT, formed while he was in high school and continuing for a
few years afterwards. Since moving to the Washington, DC area he has been a
member of several short-lived groups (most recently, Otherwhere) and also
performed semi-regularly as a solo artist.
Josh has been privileged to join on stage the nationally-known jamband
Ominous Seapods, and up-and-coming folk rocker Marlow. He is also
occasionally a member of DC punk mainstays The Max Levine Ensemble, under
the pseudonym Mr. Himmelsbach.
