Jeff Cohen
Drums
From a very young age Jeff seemed to always have an interest in musical rhythm.
"I remember walking to RFK for a Redskins game and observing the street
musicians playing on buckets and being mesmerized by the sounds they created."
He was then inspired to begin studying with the incredible Nora Davenport (local DC percussionist
phenomenon) at the age of 11. During his studies she taught him varied forms of
percussion, including marimba, timpani, drum set, and hand percussion. He joined
percussion ensembles and seemed to excel at the drum set. In high school, Jeff
played in the marching band for 4 consecutive years, and also participated
in school play arrangements. During his four years at The University of Maryland
College Park, Jeff played in "ISO", a funk/jazz/fusion band. They gigged in the
DC area and recorded 2 albums under the label "Funklicous."
Jeff's musical influences range from rock, reggae, and hip-hop, to jazz and fusion.
Today he listens to a lot of neo-soul that includes: Erykah Badu, Jill Scott,
Joss Stone, and Angie Stone. His major influences come from bands such as
Tower of Power, P-Funk, 311, and numerous other artists.
Jeff plays a Yamaha Stage Custom kit with Zildjian symbols. "I'm also single, 24,
and like long walks in the park with my dog Rafi. If you have any other
questions please inquire at our next gig. Thanks for your time."
